ABOUT THE QUARTER PROJECT

The Podcast

After searching for years to find resources and media about growing up with a mixed race identity and finding almost nothing, The Quarter Project founders Emma Buretta and Anna Kathawala started the podcast in the hopes of both creating a space for young adults and people of all ages with mixed race identities to find a community of people like them while also discussing the experience of being mixed race in today's world and how it impacts a person's sense of self.

Emma Buretta (she/her) is a climate justice activist with Fridays For Future NYC and a senior in high school. She is 1/4 Korean, 3/4 white and identifies as biracial. Through The Quarter Project, she is hoping to build a community where everyone, no matter what their identity, is included, and to find more people who are 1/4 like her!

Anna Kathawala (she/her) is a first year student at the University of California, Berkeley studying environmental humanities. She identifies as a quarter Indian, and her work as a climate activist has caused her to think critically about the intersection between identity and politics and how that intersection shapes society. She hopes The Quarter Project will open a dialogue about the way society treats racial binaries and will provide a space for people of mixed race to identify with!
